KYIV: Ukraine’s spy agency has claimed responsibility for the killing of a Russia-sponsored legislator with a car bomb in the eastern city of Luhansk, Western media reported on Wednesday. Ukraine said that it had carried out an operation to assassinate him with local resistance forces.
Mikhail Filiponenko, a legislator had been active in Luhansk’s pro-Russian movement since 2014. The legislator had served as one of the key commanders in the military of the Luhansk People’s Republic. Ukraine’s spy agency said Filiponenko was killed in an early morning blast. Mikhail Filiponenko died on the spot, it stated on Telegram messenger. It alleged him of organizing prisons for civilian people and prisoners of war in Luhansk. “Filiponenko himself tortured people,” Ukraine’s spy agency claimed, giving no further information.
Kyiv Claims It Killed Russia-Installed Legislator with Car Bomb
In September, the lawmaker was elected to the local parliament in a vote that drew worldwide global condemnation. Luhansk is one of 4 Ukrainian regions Russia claims to have seized since the start of its attack, something Ukraine and its Western allies reject.
