PESHAWAR: The Surgery Department at Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) in Peshawar, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mah Munir and Assistant Professor Dr. Iram Sabir, is dedicating the month of October to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Each year, they organize free screening and breast awareness camps, during which over 1,500 women undergo complimentary screenings. In these screenings, approximately 20 to 30 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and promptly provided with necessary treatment, as stated in the press release on Wednesday.
In collaboration with Khyber Medical College, Khyber Teaching Hospital has launched a breast cancer awareness campaign. They have set up a free camp in the outpatient department (OPD) in the hospital’s basement. This camp offers clinical examinations, educational sessions on breast cancer and related diseases, guidance on self-examinations for women, various seminars, and free ultrasounds.
Dr. Muhammad Zafar Afridi, the Director of Khyber Teaching Hospital, has advised all managerial and relevant departments to provide patients with comprehensive services, including free blood screening. This initiative aims to actively combat the disease and spread awareness among the general public.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ayaz Khan, the Director (Medical) at the hospital, has made a public appeal, stating that this free camp will continue throughout October, operating from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday. —APP
