KSA Strongly Condemns Swedish Authorities’ Allowing Extremist to Burn Holy Qur’an

RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on Saturday strongly condemned the Swedish authorities’ permitting an extremist leader to burn a copy of the Holy Qur’an in front of the embassy of Turkey in Stockholm.

In a statement, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the Riyadh’s firm stance that called for the significance to spread the values of tolerance, dialogue, and coexistence, in addition to rejecting hatred and extremism.

Earlier, Turkish Minister for foreign affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara summoned the Swedish envoy to Turkey following extremist leader of Danish party Stram Kurs (Hard Line) Rasmus Paludan, burned a copy of the Holy Qur’an outside of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.

The Stockholm Police Department said that the extremist leader had been allowed to hold a demonstration in the front of Turkish embassy in the city on Saturday.

After the development, Ankara announced the cancelation of the Swedish Minister for defense Pal Jonson’s trip to Turkey, which was scheduled on January, 27.

Turkish Minister for Defense Hulusi Akar said that “At this point, the trip of Swedish Defense Minister to Ankara on Jan. 27 has become meaningless .So we canceled the trip.”
