RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian will hold their historic meeting in Beijing on Thursday, Arab media reported.

The Beijing meeting headed three telephone chats between the two top diplomats in recent weeks following the signing of the deal, brokered by China on March 10.

During the telephonic conversation, the two ministers discussed key issues related to the restoration of diplomatic relations, such as the next measures to be taken with regard to executing the deal, procedures for the reopening of embassies, and activating the previous deal inked between Riyadh and Tehran before severing the ties.

According to the Arab media, the choice of Beijing as the site for the talks between the two ministers comes as an extension of China’s positive role in reaching the deal and facilitating communication between the two nations.

Earlier, Riyadh and Tehran, along with Beijing, announced in a joint statement that the agreement will be executed within two months. The statement also emphasized the respect for the sovereignty of nations and non-interference in their domestic affairs.

They also affirmed the restoration of all joint agreements between KSA and Iran, including cooperation in the fields of security, trade, economy, investment, science, technology, sports, culture, youth, and sports.

The inking of the historic deal to restore diplomatic relations took place after rounds of dialogue between KSA and Iran in Muscat and Baghdad, and these were followed by the last round of talks held in Beijing from March 6 to 10.
