KSA Condemns Attack on Qatari Embassy in Sudan

RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) on Saturday condemned the storming and vandalizing of Qatari embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, the Kingdom’s foreign ministry said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses Saudi Arabia’s total rejection of all shapes of violence and sabotage toward diplomatic missions and representations,” it said in a statement.  Saudi Arabia called on all parties in Sudan to abide by the ceasefire, in accordance with the outcomes of the recent Jeddah dialogue, and to engage in the political path that seeks to reach a just and comprehensive resolution to the conflict in Sudan.

KSA condemns attack on Qatari embassy in Sudan

On Saturday, Qatar’s embassy was the latest diplomatic mission to be assaulted, after attacks on the embassies of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Turkey in recent days. Saturday’s assault came a day following Arab leaders meeting at a summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, asked Sudan’s top generals to stop the fighting.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also strongly denounced the assault on the Qatari embassy, and all shapes of violence and vandalism, particularly those targeting the headquarters of diplomatic missions and their compounds recently.

The GCC Secretary-General Jassem Albudaiwi reiterated the call for the parties to the crisis to move quickly toward ceasing operations, avoid escalation, exercise maximum restraint, respect global deals and diplomatic norms that guarantee the safety and sanctity of diplomatic missions’ headquarters and their staff, and to spare civilians the effects of crisis.

Jassem Albudaiwi also called on all parties to engage seriously in the Jeddah dialogue, to reach a comprehensive political settlement that achieves stability, security, and prosperity for Sudan and its masses.

The Arab Parliament also condemned the incident and stressed the need to not harm diplomatic missions and provide them with complete security, calling on all parties in Sudan to immediately and permanently execute a truce and return to political talks.
