RIYADH: The United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs on Friday said that they are thankful to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and other donor nations who contributed to raising over appeal issued by the UN after devastating quakes in Turkey, Arab media reported.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the United Nations said it had collected 268 million dollars in response to the 1 billion dollars humanitarian funding appeal for relief efforts in Turkey after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Feb. 6.

OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke said that the largest donors were the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the United States, the European Commission, Kuwait, and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund while urging nations to provide support to finance the appeal.

He said that over 9 million people directly suffered from the earthquakes, and 3 million people had been displaced in Turkey and Syria.
On Feb. 16, the United Nations launched the 1-billion-dollar appeal to support over five million people in Turkey and an appeal for Syria to assist survivors over the first 90 days. The latter has collected 364 million dollars of the 398 million dollars requested.
The United Nations (UN) and other humanitarian organizations have reached over 4.1 million people with basic household items including clothes, and over 3 million with emergency aid, while 700,000 people have received support to enhance their living arrangements like tents, relief housing units, and tent repair tools, Laerke said.
The United Nations humanitarian agency’s spokesperson said that the Turkish Ministry of Health has also been supported with over 4.6 million vaccine doses, and sixteen mobile health clinics, in addition to medical supplies for reproductive health and injuries.
