MOSCOW: Western nations are attempting to use “the Russian threat” to distract their public from internal issues, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Saturday.

Talking to media, Dmitry Peskov branded German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’ call to prepare for a war with Moscow “an old horror story regarding a Russian bear.”

He said, “This call is easy to realize. The economic issues are clear. The competitiveness of the famous German industry is also falling, expenses are increasing, the load of social obligations is increasing. German farmers take to the streets … meaning they reached the end of their serenity.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Moscow is capable of “attacking a NATO nation one day.

Russia, for its part, stated for years NATO has been coming closer and closer to its borders, contrary to pledges to late Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev not to expand the alliance and without an obvious cause.
