MOSCOW, Russia: The Kremlin has refrained from congratulating Donald Trump on his recent presidential election victory, stating that it will judge him based on his actions rather than campaign promises. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, emphasized that Russia will form its opinion based on “concrete steps and concrete words,” pointing to a cautious wait-and-see approach.

Relations between the U.S. and Russia have reached historic lows, especially following Western support for Ukraine in its conflict with Moscow. Trump has claimed he could end the Ukraine conflict swiftly, a position that contrasts with the Biden administration’s support for Ukraine. Peskov acknowledged that Trump’s campaign included “harsh statements,” but also gestures toward peace. However, he noted that campaign rhetoric often changes once a candidate assumes office.

Peskov remarked that U.S.-Russia relations are already at “their lowest point,” making further deterioration difficult. He also dismissed claims of Russian interference in U.S. elections. The Kremlin views the U.S. as “unfriendly,” highlighting the complex diplomatic challenges that Trump will face with Russia moving forward.
