STAFF REPORT
PESHAWAR: After PTI Chairman Imran Khan announced he would quit all the assemblies, the opposition parties in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have stepped up their efforts to prevent the parliament from being dissolved.
In a speech to the supporters at Rehmanabad during the party’s long march a day earlier, the ex-premier said that his party had decided they would not remain part of the corrupt system and would quit from all assemblies. The resignation date would be announced soon, he said.
The KP opposition parties have called an urgent meeting tonight at Akram Durrani’s home, who is the leader of the opposition in the provincial assembly. All the opposition parliamentary leaders will be present at the meeting where various options to avert the assembly’s dissolution will be discussed.
Mahmood Khan, the chief minister of KP, would be the target of a motion of no confidence, according to Durrani. Sardar Hussain Babak, a member of parliament for the Awami National Party, declared that his party would not permit the provincial government to dissolve the assembly. Ikhtiar Wali, an MP for the PML-N, also stated that they would be present at the meeting. How could CM Khan possibly dissolve the assemblies, Wali questioned?
He said that the province’s 40 million residents trust the KP Assembly. He declared that they will file a motion of no confidence against the CM and exercise their right to file a court complaint.
Ready to resign
The provincial government will adhere strictly to Khan’s instructions, according to Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, Special Assistant to KP CM on Information. Saif said, “We are prepared for resignations, dissolution of the assemblies, and leaving the government. He continued that new, fair elections were the only way to end this political crisis. If the “imported” government is sincere with the nation and the country, Saif added, it should call fresh elections. Saif claimed that the “historical power show” at the PTI rally in Rawalpindi broke all previous records.
Imran Khan
Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, unexpectedly said on Saturday that his party had made the decision to leave “this system” and all of the assemblies. Speaking to a charged crowd in Rehmanabad, Khan declared that they would resign from all of the assemblies rather than continue to be a part of the current political system. It should be noted that Khan’s PTI controls the provinces of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The PTI has decided to leave the assemblies rather than causing chaos, he continued. However, Khan stated that he would reveal the exact date in the coming days. He added that he had spoken with his chief ministers about the matter and would soon announce when the party would leave the assemblies. He will also talk with the parliamentary party on the subject.
