ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) interim cabinet has decided against holding immediate elections in the province due to the uncertain security situation and financial crises.

All cabinet members, including ministers and advisors, made the decision unanimously during a meeting held on Monday.

The provincial cabinet was briefed on the security and economic situation of the province, and it was determined that the worsening security situation in the region would make it difficult to hold free and fair elections at this time.

The cabinet members also cited the province’s financial crisis as a significant barrier to holding elections.

Given the current circumstances, the cabinet concluded that allocating funds for the election process would not be feasible.

Therefore, the decision was made to write to the election commission, informing them of the decision not to hold immediate elections in the province.

The KP interim cabinet’s decision comes at a time when the security situation in the region is volatile, with reports of increasing violence and militant activities.

The province is also facing a significant financial crisis, with budgetary constraints impacting the government’s ability to allocate funds for critical projects and programs.

The decision not to hold immediate elections is likely to draw criticism from opposition parties who have been pushing for early elections in the province.

However, the KP interim cabinet has stressed that their primary concern is ensuring the safety and security of citizens in the province, which would be compromised in the current environment.
