PESHAWAR: The Sehat Card Plus, which provided free medical treatment to people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), was temporarily suspended from Wednesday. The move comes after a similar decision in Punjab, leaving many patients in the lurch.

An insurance company in KP, which manages the Sehat Card Plus, issued a letter to the head of facilitation of Sehat Card, all panel hospitals, and district medical officers informing them about the decision.

The letter said that all hospital admissions under the scheme were temporarily suspended and new admissions would not be accepted from 20 April until further notice.

As per the new orders, health card desks established in hospitals would remain closed. However, district medical officers, health facilitators, and provincial medical officers would be present in health facilities to prepare claims. The Sehat Card Plus scheme was launched to provide quality and free healthcare services to people below the poverty line.
