PESHAWAR: Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mahmood Jan on Friday survived an assassination attempt as unknown assailants opened fire at him in Peshawar. Fortunately, he remained unhurt.
The incident took place when the provincial assembly deputy speaker was addressing a function related to livestock in the Regi area of Peshawar when unknown persons opened fire at him.
Police have launched a search operation in the area to find the fugitive accused after the firing on Deputy Speaker KP Assembly Muhammad Jan.
Deputy Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mahmood Jan said that he was addressing a function related to livestock in the Regi area of Peshawar when unknown persons opened fire on him.
The Deputy Speaker said that his bodyguards fired back at the assailants from which they escaped.
Deputy Speaker resigns from assembly
It should be remembered that Deputy Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mahmood Jan has also written his resignation.
He said that on the orders of Imran Khan. “I am also resigning from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly as a member, including the Deputy Speakership,” he wrote. Mehmood Jan said that Chairman PTI Imran Khan had announced his resignation from the assemblies.
