PESHAWAR: The Provincial Apex Committee has decided to continue the crackdown against illegal activities more effectively and systematically, for which the concerned provincial and federal entities were directed to ensure well-coordinated actions.
The third session of the Provincial Apex Committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held on Wednesday with Caretaker Chief Minister KP Muhammad Azam Khan in the chair. The forum took stock of the progress on the implementation of its decisions taken in the last meeting about curbing illegal activities.
The session also reviewed progress on the repatriation of illegal immigrants to their home countries. Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. Gen. Hassan Azhar Hayat, Caretaker Provincial Minister Finance Ahmad Rasool Bangash, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, Inspector General Police Akhtar Hayat Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Abid Majeed, administrative secretaries of concerned departments and other civil and military officials attended the meeting.
The session reviewed in detail measures taken by different provincial and federal entities against illegal activities, including extortion, use of illegal SIMS and weapons, smuggling, Hawala, Hundi, fake documentation, Narcotics, and NCP vehicles in the province.
Authorities of the provincial and federal departments gave briefings to the forum regarding the achievements and progress of their concerned departments in curbing illegal activities.
Apex Committee Discusses Issue of Non-Custom Paid Vehicles
Issues related to the profiling of Non-Custom Paid vehicles and registration of Madaris also came under discussion in the meeting.
The session reiterated its resolve to deal with the matter of the illegal spectrum with an iron hand, particularly the issue of extortion, and it was decided to have a special meeting of the Apex Committee focusing only on extortion to devise a comprehensive strategy to effectively deal with the problem.
The forum also stressed the need to have special checks on the supply of narcotics in educational institutions, and it was decided to launch a crackdown against the big criminals involved in the manufacturing and supply of narcotics.
The Anti-Narcotics Force Excise Department and Police were directed to devise a joint strategy to curb the menace of narcotics.
