LONDON: King Charles of Britain in his Christmas Day message on Monday called on people to support those less fortunate during a time of economic hardship and global conflicts.
In his second Christmas message since becoming king, he emphasized compassion, the importance of kindness and care for the environment.
The king also paid rich tribute to charity workers, volunteers, and people working over the holidays in roles caring for others.
He said we need to build on existing ways to support others less fortunate than ourselves.
Charles gave his message beside a living Christmas tree that Buckingham Palace said would be replanted.
The King speaking from the palace said we care for the Earth for the sake of our children’s children.
He added during his lifetime he had been so pleased to see a growing awareness of how we must protect the Earth and our natural world as the one home which we all share.

Referring to the 11-week-old war raging in Gaza, Charles said at a time of increasingly tragic conflict around the world, I pray that we can also do all in our power to protect each other.
According to Gaza health ministry at least 20,674 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in unrelenting Israeli bombardments since October 7.
The UN has said that some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes because of the Israeli bombardment of the besieged enclave.
