SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has received Russian deputy minister of defence Aleksey Krivoruchko and discussed the significance of the two sides’ militaries to unite more resolutely to defend international peace and justice, official news agency KCNA reported.

Kim and Krivoruchko also shared the need for defense cooperation between the two nations to defend mutual security interests, KCNA reported.

Krivoruchko also conveyed greetings from Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the North Korean leader, who expressed thanks in the meeting, held on Thursday.

However, the report of the official media did not provide any other details and information of Krivoruchko’s delegation or the purpose of the trip to North Korea.

Russia and North Korea have deepened defense cooperation since their leaders held a meeting in the Russia’s Far East last year and also inked an agreement on strategic partnership that also includes a mutual defence deal struck in June when President Putin visited North Korea.

The two nations have been accused of conducting weapons trade by the US and South Korea to help Russia’s stock of missiles and artillery for its war with Kyiv. However, the two nations deny such allegations.
