PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches will be held in Peshawar this year as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) rolls out a major security and governance initiative across Malakand Division and other conflict-affected districts.
A high-level meeting at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar brought together the Federal Interior Minister, KP Chief Minister, National Security Advisor, Corps Commander Peshawar, and senior civil and military officials to review the province’s security situation. Tributes were paid to civilians and security personnel killed in recent terrorist attacks.
The provincial government will immediately implement a governance model in Malakand under the supervision of police and provincial institutions, with plans to extend it gradually to Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram.
A special sub-committee, led by the Chief Minister and including federal and provincial officials along with elected representatives, will monitor development projects, oversee security operations, and ensure alternative employment opportunities for local communities.

Youth, jobs, security
The meeting also focused on countering extremism among youth, creating sustainable job opportunities, and continuing strict action against illegal activities, including unregistered SIM cards, explosives, extortion, and non-custom-paid vehicles.
Officials said close coordination between federal and provincial authorities will ensure a unified approach to tackling terrorism and improving governance across the province.
Safe events, strong economy
Malakand Division, along with districts like Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram, has historically faced challenges due to militant activity and limited administrative oversight.
Development projects in these areas have often been disrupted by security concerns, leaving local communities with few economic opportunities.
The governance model being implemented under provincial oversight aims to strengthen law and order while simultaneously accelerating development. By providing alternative livelihoods and improving local administration, the government seeks to curb extremist influence and ensure sustainable income for residents.
This initiative also comes as the government seeks to reassure citizens and visitors that large-scale events, such as the PSL, can be conducted safely in Peshawar, signalling confidence in the province’s improving security landscape.
Growth through governance
Analysts believe that restoring security and improving governance will pave the way for greater economic activity, investment, and social development, creating a more prosperous and stable environment in the province.
The successful hosting of large-scale events such as the PSL is expected to boost tourism, generate revenue, and demonstrate KP’s readiness to welcome both national and international engagements, signalling a positive shift towards long-term prosperity and growth.
