PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of widespread rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over the coming days.
The alert, released Monday, predicts isolated heavy rain and hailstorms in most parts of the province, with potential disruptions and closures of roads.
Residents across Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Malakand, Buner, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, Tank, and DI Khan districts are advised to stay vigilant.
Heavy rain and snowfall are particularly expected in Chitral, Swat, Dir, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, and Abbottabad, where landslides are a potential hazard. Tourists visiting these areas are urged to exercise caution and follow advisories from local authorities.
As of Monday, rain was already recorded across the province, with Pashat-Bajaur receiving the highest amount at 57 mm, and trace amounts in DI Khan. Snowfall was reported in Kalam (24 inches), Malamjaba (18 inches), and Chitral (1 inch).
To ensure safety, residents are advised to be prepared for sudden weather changes, stock up on essential supplies, and avoid traveling in hazardous conditions. Stay updated on weather forecasts and follow instructions from relevant authorities.
