ISLAMABAD: Despite the prevailing cold and dry weather, the authorities in Pakistan and China have decided to keep Khunjerab Pass open till January 16 to provide assistance to commuters and encourage trade, Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.
The move has been taken as a strategic move to boost and strengthen trade ties through the crucial gateway for commerce between the two countries.
Usually, the route is closed from November to March due to extreme cold weather conditions. However, authorities have opened the pass temporarily this week to facilitate trade activities between the two sides.
Khunjerab Pass a Vital Tarde Route
Khunjerab Pass connects the picturesque Gilgit Baltistan to the Xinjiang region of China, is the highest paved international border between the two countries, and stands as a vital link for both China and Pakistan.
The recent move to reopen the route is anticipated to strengthen economic collaboration between the two sides further, leveraging the significance of the Khunjerab Pass as a pivotal channel for cross-border trade.
