TEHRAN, Iran: Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is set to lead Friday prayers in Tehran, delivering a rare public sermon following Iran’s missile attack on Israel.

This attack, conducted by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, was in response to Israeli strikes that killed key Hezbollah and Hamas leaders, both of which are backed by Tehran. Khamenei’s sermon comes just ahead of the anniversary of the Israel-Hamas war, adding significance to the event.

This is Khamenei’s first Friday sermon in nearly five years, with many anticipating insights into Iran’s next moves. The missile strike marked Iran’s second direct attack on Israel, signaling a bold response to setbacks faced by its allies. Iran has justified the strikes as self-defense, warning of further “crushing attacks” should Israel retaliate, and cautioning the U.S. against involvement.

As tensions rise, the U.S. has warned Iran of consequences, possibly in coordination with Israel, and President Biden hinted at discussions of possible strikes on Iranian oil sites. Israel, with its allies, intercepted many of the missiles, maintaining its defensive posture while preparing for further escalations.
