ASTANA: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has warned the interior minister, prosecutor general, and Supreme Court chairman, emphasizing the crucial need to prevent violence against women and children. This comes in the wake of the disturbing murders of a five-year-old girl in Turkestan and Saltanat Nukenova in Astana.
President Tokayev has taken notice of these high-profile cases and assigned specific tasks to law enforcement bodies. Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov, Prosecutor General Berik Assylov, and Supreme Court Chairman Asslambek Mergaliyev have been directed to proactively address and prevent violence against women and children.
Press Secretary Berik Uali stated in an interview that the President, through a decree signed on December 8, has initiated an action plan focusing on human rights and the rule of law. The plan includes comprehensive measures to strengthen gender equality, combat domestic violence, protect citizens in criminal matters, and prevent torture and abuse.
Uali emphasized the President’s commitment to translate these initiatives into tangible actions, creating real conditions for a just Kazakhstan.
This year, the Presidential Administration’s department for the control over consideration of appeals has dealt with 53,237 appeals from individuals and legal entities, providing appropriate responses.
In a separate incident, former National Economy Minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev was arrested for two months following reports of his alleged involvement in brutal killing of his wife, Saltanat Nukenova, at the Bau restaurant in the capital city.
