ASTANA: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday underscored the cultural significance of reimagining the celebration of Nauryz, the Kazakh New Year.

In an interview with Egemen Qazaqstan newspaper, the President, despite the global observance of the New Year on January 1, urged citizens not to overlook the importance of Nauryz, traditionally celebrated on March 22.

While acknowledging the recent New Year as a significant marker tied to the change in calendar dates, President Tokayev clarified that it lacks sacred meaning for him. He believed that the creative approach would contribute to the unity of society and the strengthening of national identity.

Importance of Nauryz

“Nauryz symbolizes renewal, and it should be celebrated in a new way: meaningfully, creatively, introducing new distinctive elements. I am sure this will contribute to society’s consolidation and strengthening of our national identity,” President Tokayev stated.
