ASTANA: Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, presented a series of initiatives and projects aimed at advancing the country’s higher education and science sectors during a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on July 19.

According to a statement from Akorda, Minister Nurbek highlighted Kazakhstan’s emergence as a regional educational and scientific center, facilitated by the establishment of 25 branches of foreign universities.

Agreements with international partners are also set to transform regional state universities into research institutions aligned with global educational standards.

This year, the government has introduced new financial support mechanisms for students, including the Keleshek voluntary savings system, the National Fund for Children, preferential educational loans, and differentiated grants. These measures are designed to enhance accessibility to higher education across all segments of the population.

Regarding the development of artificial intelligence (AI), Minister Nurbek reported that over 2,000 students are currently enrolled in 15 AI-related educational programs across eight universities, in response to the President’s directives.

In efforts to bolster human resources for the digital economy, Kazakhstan has forged partnerships with multinational corporations such as Google, Nvidia, Coursera, 01 Edu System, and Huawei. Furthermore, the Bolashak program plans to award 100 scholarships annually for specialized AI training.
