ALMATY: Voting in the Kazakhstan presidential elections is underway and is expected to strengthen Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s hold on power after a long deadly uncertainty caused a historical power transfer in Kazakhstan.

Polling started at 0100 GMT and will end at 1500 GMT.

President Tokayev’s victory, who cast his vote in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, is very likely as he is not facing any actual opposition.

In January 2022, Kazakhstan sank into unrest during countrywide protests against high living costs and inflation resulting in the death of 238 people.

If President Tokayev announced reforms in a country with an uncertain political landscape, hardly political pressures and real opposition.
