ISLAMABAD: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is due to arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday for his first state visit, as Islamabad and Astana look to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and regional security, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said.
During the two-day visit, Tokayev will hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while senior officials from both sides are expected to discuss ways to expand economic ties, enhance regional connectivity, and strengthen collaboration at regional and international forums.
The visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and will include a high-level delegation of senior Cabinet ministers and other officials.
The discussions are expected to focus on trade, investment, energy, regional connectivity, and security cooperation.
According to the Foreign Office, the visit provides an important opportunity to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and explore new avenues for cooperation, including people-to-people contacts and collaboration at regional and international forums.
Pakistan and Kazakhstan have maintained diplomatic relations since the early 1990s, following Kazakhstan’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
Over the years, both countries have steadily strengthened ties, with growing cooperation in trade, energy, and cultural exchange. Pakistan is among the first countries to recognise Kazakhstan and has supported its regional initiatives, while Kazakhstan views Pakistan as a key partner in South Asia.
Bilateral trade has expanded in recent years, with both sides expressing interest in further deepening economic and security collaboration.
The forthcoming visit reflects the strengthening bonds between Pakistan and Kazakhstan, their mutual commitment to transforming historic and cultural affinities into robust cooperation, and their shared desire for peace and progress in the region.
