LOS ANGELES: Katy Perry made headlines with her candid remarks about pop icon Madonna, reflecting on their initial interactions and the significant influence Madonna had on her career.
In an interview on the Australian television show The Project, the 39-year-old singer recounted her early days in the music industry, recalling her first meeting with the 66-year-old legend.
Perry praised Madonna, stating she was “super nice” but also revealed that gaining the Queen of Pop’s approval was no easy feat. “Well, it took a minute because she was testing me,” Perry shared.
While Perry did not go into detail about how Madonna “tested” her, she expressed gratitude for the opportunities that arose from their relationship. “And then she became super nice to me,” Perry added.
Perry elaborated on the support she received from Madonna, noting that the pop star invited her to parties and arranged for them to do a photoshoot together, which Perry described as “amazing.” “She just does her Madonna thing,” Perry said.
Moreover, Perry expressed that she owes the release of her latest album, 143, to Madonna’s encouragement.
