NEW YORK: Kate Winslet opened up about the media intrusion she faced during the height of her fame following the release of Titanic in 1997. The 48-year-old actress shared her experiences with the press, which she described as making her life “quite unpleasant.”

Speaking to attendees in New York City during an advance screening of her upcoming film Lee, Winslet expressed her feelings of pressure to conform to societal expectations.

“I felt like I had to look a certain way or be a certain thing,” she said, emphasizing how the media scrutiny affected her mental well-being.

Winslet also recounted the peculiar circumstances surrounding her first viewing of Titanic. After missing the London premiere due to a severe case of food poisoning that landed her in the hospital, she found herself attending the US release while grieving the loss of a boyfriend.

“I mean, it’s a horrible thing to even think about now. And obviously, I wasn’t gonna miss that, so I sort of missed everything around the release of Titanic, which I don’t know, is that the universe’s way of protecting me or just reminding me to do the things that matter?” she mused.

Describing her experience watching Titanic in a “packed theater,” Winslet called it “quite strange,” as she reflected on how disconnected she felt from the monumental success of the film at that time.

These recent comments echo a confession Winslet made earlier this year in an interview with Porter, where she discussed the discomfort she experienced with her newfound fame after the film’s release.

She expressed that the overwhelming attention was not just a result of the film’s popularity, but also a personal journey of navigating the pressures that came with being a high-profile actress.
