MIRPUR, AJK (Pakistan): Kashmir’s EU (European Union) Week is all set to begin in Brussels, the European headquarters, early next month, organized by the Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU).

Chairman of KC-EU, Ali Raza Syed while talking to media over the telephone from Brussels on Wednesday said, “The Kashmir’s EU Week is scheduled to unfold from December 05-15 in the European Headquarters Brussels”.

The upcoming events encompass a range of activities such as seminars, conferences, a media session, debates, and a photo exhibition to be held at the European Press Club Brussels and the European Parliament. Additionally, numerous meetings are scheduled with European officials, members of the European Parliament, and representatives from civil society and human rights organizations during the Kashmir EU Week, commencing on December 5 (Tuesday).

Ali Raza Syed emphasized, “Kashmir’s EU Week, organized by the Kashmir Council EU for many years, aims to spotlight the Kashmir issue, shedding light on the plight of oppressed Kashmiris and showcasing the beauty of Kashmir’s culture in Europe.”

Amid a global stance against state terrorism and atrocities on civilians, Syed expressed hope that the world would also focus on curbing Indian brutalities against Kashmiris. He called upon the international community, particularly the European Union, to exert pressure on India, urging an immediate halt to the crimes committed by Indian security forces in the India Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) region. Syed advocated for granting the people of IIOJ&K the right to self-determination as outlined in the UN’s resolutions on Kashmir.

Syed stated, “Since 1947, the people of IIOJ&K have endured relentless hardships, with their suffering escalating day by day.” He urged the international community, including the European Union, to take swift action to prevent atrocities against the people of IIOJ&K, envisioning a normalized situation in the disputed land. He emphasized the need for creating a peaceful atmosphere, enabling the people of IIOJ&K to exercise their right to self-determination in alignment with their aspirations and in accordance with United Nations resolutions. —APP
