SRINAGAR: Kashmiris both within the region and across the globe observed Jammu Martyrs’ Day on Monday, marking the tragic events of November 1947 and renewing their commitment to continue the mission of the martyrs until the realization of their absolute right to self-determination.
During the first week of November in 1947, thousands of Kashmiris were brutally massacred by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian army, and Hindutva forces in different parts of the Jammu region as they were migrating to Pakistan.
To honor the memory of the victims, rallies, demonstrations, and protest gatherings were organized in various cities of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhember, Rawlakot, Bagh, Poonch, Hatiyan, Sadhnothi, and Neelum.
Kashmiris Remember Victims of Jammu Massacre
Under the auspices of Kashmir Liberation Commission, Hurriyat, and religious organizations, the Kashmiri community paid homage to the martyrs and emphasized the significance of their sacrifices. All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders paid rich tributes to the Jammu martyrs, stating that the bloodshed and suffering endured by the victims of the Jammu massacre would not be in vain.
Senior APHC leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmed Khan, conveyed their messages from Tihar Jail, emphasizing that the 1947 Jammu massacre remained one of the most horrifying incidents in Kashmir’s history. They underlined the enduring impact of the tragedy on the collective memory of Kashmiris and reiterated the resolve to achieve the mission of the martyrs at all costs.
The leaders and organizations reiterated that the best way to honor the memory of the martyrs was to carry forward their mission until it reached its logical conclusion. Pro-freedom organizations displayed posters in various parts of Srinagar and the wider territory, paying tribute to the victims of the Jammu massacre.
