SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir: Kashmiris both within the territories of Jammu and Kashmir and across the globe are set to mark October 27th as Black Day, a solemn occasion that conveys a powerful message to the world, firmly denouncing the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by India.
The history behind this significant day dates back to October 27, 1947, when Indian troops forcibly entered the region of Jammu and Kashmir, subsequently occupying it. This act was in blatant violation of the Partition Plan of the Indian subcontinent and was contrary to the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The call to observe Black Day has been echoed by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), an alliance of pro-independence groups in Jammu and Kashmir. The APHC has also called for a complete shutdown in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, underscoring the profound importance of this day.
In a statement released in Srinagar, the APHC appealed to the international community to awaken from indifference and take tangible actions to facilitate a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir in line with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. This plebiscite would allow the people of Kashmir to exercise their fundamental right to self-determination.
In preparation for the day, posters have emerged throughout Srinagar and other areas of occupied Kashmir. These posters, distributed by various organizations, including the APHC, the Resistance Youth Forum of Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Warseen-e-Shuhada, the Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Movement, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Youth Forum, the Jammu and Kashmir Justice and Peace Initiative, Nawjawanan-e-Hurriyat Jammu Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Students Forum, and other entities, vividly depict October 27, 1947, as one of the darkest chapters in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. These posters have also been widely shared on various social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Simultaneously, the APHC-AJK Convener, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, issued a statement in Islamabad, highlighting India’s role in impeding the implementation of the plebiscite by refusing to withdraw its troops from the occupied region.
