SRINAGAR: Hurriyat leaders and organizations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have expressed deep dismay over the failure to deliver justice to the victims of the Kunan-Poshpora mass rape, which occurred over three decades ago.
The tragic incident, where around 100 women were gang-raped during a military operation in 1991, continues to haunt the Kashmiri populace, highlighting the ongoing atrocities committed by Indian forces in the region.
In their statements, leaders including Molvi Bashir Ahmed Irfani and Fahreeda Behanji condemned the heinous act as a deliberate strategy by Indian authorities to suppress the Kashmiri freedom movement. They emphasized the plight of Kashmiri women, who have borne the brunt of Indian aggression, facing not just violence but also sexual abuse as a tool of oppression.
Despite the passage of 33 years, justice remains elusive for the victims, with attempts made to conceal the truth and shield the perpetrators. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the Indian army’s use of rape as a weapon of war to silence dissent and crush aspirations for self-determination in Kashmir.
