MIRPUR: A local fraternity, affiliated with national and regional print and electronic media on Thursday observed India’s Independence Day as a “black day” to express the Kashmiris’ strong dissociation and resentment towards New Delhi for maintaining control over their homeland by force for the past 77 years.

The group called on the international community to play its part in achieving a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict in accordance with international norms and commitments.

Journalists and civil society representatives from various sectors participated in the protest rally organized by the Kashmir Press Club Mirpur.

Participants carried black flags and chanted slogans supporting the freedom movement and condemning human rights violations in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Speakers, including the President of the Kashmir Press Club, strongly condemned India’s actions and the inhumane treatment of innocent Kashmiris in the occupied region.

They declared that Kashmiris would continue to mark India’s Independence Day as a black day until IIOJK is liberated from Indian rule. The rally concluded peacefully.
