SRINAGAR: On Monday, Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world will observe Jammu Martyrs’ Day, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to continue the mission of the martyrs until their inalienable right to self-determination is realized.
The historical significance of this day traces back to the tragic events of November 1947 when hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris met with violence. These innocent lives were lost during their migration to Pakistan, a grim episode that involved forces under Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian army, and Hindutva forces in various parts of the Jammu region.
Leaders and organizations associated with the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in Srinagar have issued statements paying heartfelt tributes to the Jammu martyrs, emphasizing that their sacrifices will not be in vain. The martyrdom of those from Jammu has deep historical and symbolic importance, representing a sacred cause that will be remembered with honor and reverence.
The leaders and organizations highlighted the heartbreaking genocide of Muslims in Jammu in 1947 as one of the world’s most significant tragedies, resulting in the loss of countless lives. Their message remains clear: the most fitting way to honor the memory of the martyrs is to persevere in their mission until it attains its logical conclusion.
Jammu Martyrs’ Day serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit and determination of the Kashmiri people as they continue to seek self-determination and a peaceful resolution to their longstanding political aspirations.
