KARACHI: Karachi is witnessing extreme heat, with the temperature soaring to 40°C and the “feels like” temperature reaching 52°C, Met Office said on Wednesday.
According to the Meteorological Department, the humidity level in the city is 53 percent, making the heat more intense.
The Met Office has predicted a high of 41°C for the day, with a possibility of rain at scattered places in the evening or night. The winds are blowing at a speed of 13 km/h, and the sea breeze remains suspended, creating heatwave conditions.
The Met Office has warned citizens to take precautions measures against the heat and humidity. Rain-wind and thundershowers are expected in Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and in several parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while mainly hot and humid weather is predicted in Balochistan and Sindh during the next 48 hours.
According to NDMA, mainly partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions are likely in Gilgit Baltistan. The forecast also includes flooding and land sliding in mountainous regions of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala and other areas.
