KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating that the weather in the city is expected to remain overcast with a possibility of rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday.

According to Weather Analyst Jawad Memon, who spoke to the media, the Met Office’s prediction is backed by his analysis, pointing out the likelihood of light-to-moderate, and even heavy rainfall in certain areas of Karachi. The western and northwestern regions of the port city may experience substantial rainfall due to the movement of low-pressure air from the Arabian Sea, which is steadily advancing towards the west and approaching areas near Balochistan, according to local media.

As for the current temperatures, the metropolis has recorded a minimum of 26.5°C, while maximum temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 34°C to 36°C. Gentle breezes from the northwest are blowing through Karachi, bringing with them a humidity ratio of 92%.

Over the last 24 hours, the city has experienced significant rainfall, with Surjani Town receiving the highest amount at 100mm. Other areas like Saadi Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, University Road, North Karachi, and Orangi Town have measured rainfall at 58mm, 54mm, 52mm, 51mm, and 43mm, respectively.

At specific locations, the Jinnah Terminal, Old Airport, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed, the Met Office recorded rain at 31mm, 23mm, and 24mm, respectively.

The heavy rains have led to water accumulation in some parts of the city, including Malir Halt, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Sharea Faisal.

Looking at the rest of the Sindh province, the PMD’s forecast for today indicates rain with wind and thunderstorms expected in Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Naushahro Feroz, Qambar, Shahdad Kot, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Padidan, Khairpur, Thatta, and Badin.

Furthermore, the heavy downpours may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Noushero Feroz, Qamber, Shahdad Kot, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Karachi.

With the city and surrounding regions bracing for possible rain and thunderstorms, it is advisable for residents to take necessary precautions and stay informed about weather updates from the Meteorological Department.
