KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a significant rise in traffic fines, effective from November 1, 2023.
In an official announcement posted on the Karachi Traffic Police social media account, the police unveiled new traffic fines, signaling a more serious approach towards traffic violators.
Over-speeding
Motorcyclists caught over-speeding will now face a fine of Rs. 700, while the fine for jeep and car owners has been raised to Rs. 1,000.
Wrong-side driving
One of the most serious traffic violations — driving on the wrong side of the road — will result in severe penalties as motorcyclists engaging in this risky behavior will face a fine of Rs. 2,000, while car owners will be slapped with a whopping Rs. 3,000 fine.
Traffic signal violations
The fines for traffic signal violations have been increased to Rs. 500 for bike-riders and Rs. 1,000 for car owners, reinforcing the importance of obeying traffic signals for the overall safety of commuters.
One-way road rules
To discourage the dangerous trend of driving in the wrong direction on a one-way road, motorcyclists will now face a fine of Rs. 2,000, while car owners will be slapped a substantial Rs. 5,000 fine to avoid significant hazard for road-users.
