KARACHI: A lion that caused a stir in Karachi on Tuesday evening when it was seen strolling down the city’s main road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, was eventually captured, local media reported.
The sight of the lion left people in wonder and skepticism. The citizens immediately looked for shelter to take protection from the lion. However, one person was wounded by the animal during its stroll.
The lion finally reached the car park of a building near Ayesha Bawani College, where the officials of the wildlife department arrived and captured it.
In a statement, Sindh Wildlife Department Conservator Javed Mehar said it was unlawful to keep lions in residential areas of the city.
On the other hand, police officials also arrested the owner of the lion. DIG South Javed Mehr confirmed the owner of the lion had also been arrested. He added it was forbidden to keep wild animals in urban areas. However, the owner said that the lion was ill and being taken for medical treatment when the incident happened.
