KARACHI: Karachi Kings Director Haider Azhar has voiced strong confidence in the team’s strategy, structure, and approach to player development following the conclusion of the PSL 10 group stage.

Speaking to the media after their final group-stage defeat to Islamabad United, Haider expressed pride in how the squad was assembled and its overall performance.

“Alhamdulillah, we are very pleased with the planning we did at the draft — particularly about achieving a well-balanced side. We were one of the few teams to give opportunities to 18 different players throughout the season,” Haider noted.

“The playing conditions in Karachi turned out to be slightly different from what we had anticipated, but we had ensured coverage for both spin-friendly and pace-friendly pitches.”

Taking risks

He went on to highlight a key tactical decision made during the draft:

“We took a calculated risk by backing local talent in the middle and lower order — an area where Pakistani players have often struggled. Khushdil Shah delivered consistently, and Irfan Khan Niazi also made valuable contributions. Overall, we’re satisfied with the team’s all-around performance.”

Haider Azhar also emphasised Karachi Kings’ long-term commitment to developing young talent.

“Player development has always been a core focus for Karachi Kings. Over the last ten seasons, we’ve seen numerous players start their journeys with us — Mir Hamza, Shahnawaz Dahani, Irfan Khan Niazi, Abbas Afridi, and Abrar Ahmed. These aren’t just names; they represent success stories.”

“Even last year, during our talent hunt in northern regions, we discovered Fawad Ali — a young fast bowler who clocked 149 km/h in this tournament. Our commitment to identifying and nurturing emerging talent remains as strong as ever.”

Karachi Kings are now set to face Lahore Qalandars in the Eliminator on 22nd May at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, with hopes of keeping their title aspirations alive.
