KARACHI: Karachi is set to host the event for the second year running in partnership with the international One Run by Hero League, joining millions of runners from cities across the globe in celebrating fitness and community spirit.

The world’s largest half marathon, One Run, will take place on Saturday, 24 May, with over 200,000 participants expected worldwide, including more than 2,000 runners from Karachi.

In addition to the flagship half marathon (21.1 km), the event will also offer 1 km, 5 km, and 10 km race categories, catering to all levels of participants — from first-timers and families to experienced athletes.

In Karachi, the race will kick off from the Emaar Sales Centre in DHA, guiding runners along a stunning coastal route. The scenic Emaar track, with its well-kept roads and beautiful seaside views, promises an unforgettable experience for participants of all ages and abilities.

Pakistan’s international sporting image

Shoaib Nizami, CEO of Sports in Pakistan, shared his excitement about the continued partnership with One Run, highlighting its importance in enhancing Pakistan’s international sporting image.

“We’re delighted to team up with One Run for a second year, reinforcing Pakistan’s presence on the global sporting map,” said Nizami.

“This event continues to shine a light on our athletic talent, spectacular landscapes, and renowned hospitality,” he added.

One Run is designed to unite people — whether they’re chasing a personal best, taking part in their first official race, or simply enjoying an active outing with friends and family.

Over 180,000 participants across Russia will also take part in the event, marking its ninth edition.

Meanwhile, 40,000 runners from countries including Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Qatar, China, Egypt, India, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Chile, Lebanon, Armenia, Tunisia, Venezuela, and others are expected to join the global run.

It is worth noting that the One Run Half Marathon originated in Russia in 2017, initially held simultaneously in 10 cities.

In the years that followed, it expanded to additional cities and eventually went global. In 2020, a synchronised start across all Russian regions earned the event two Guinness World Records for uniting the largest number of cities in a half marathon.

By 2023, the race had gained international recognition, being held in five countries, including China, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Tajikistan, and Belarus.
