WASHINGTON: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has unveiled a $50 million advertising campaign, leveraging the momentum from her emerging campaign against Republican opponent Donald Trump. The campaign’s centerpiece is a one-minute advertisement titled “Fearless.”
It was Harris’ first major ad purchase since securing the Democratic nomination following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race on July 21 and his endorsement of her.
Harris has attracted significant support from major donors and energized key demographics, such as young voters, that Biden had struggled to engage.
Recent public opinion polls indicate that Harris, 59, is narrowing the gap with 78-year-old Trump, who still leads in some national surveys. The ads will be broadcast on television and across streaming and social media platforms in crucial battleground states in the lead-up to the Democratic National Convention, starting August 19.
The initial ad features a montage of Harris’s journey from childhood to her roles as a prosecutor, attorney general, and U.S. vice president, with the message, “The one thing Kamala Harris has always been: fearless.”
In her new role, Harris has focused on Trump’s felony convictions in the hush-money trial and other criminal charges, portraying him as a catalyst for anti-abortion legislation in Republican-led states.
Harris’s ad buy significantly surpasses the $10 million advertising campaign announced by Trump’s team on Monday, which will target six battleground states this week in an effort to counter Harris’s growing voter enthusiasm and fundraising success.
