PESHAWAR: In a changing weather pattern in Pakistan, snowfall, heavy rains and hailstorm in the Swat district not only brought the winter back in the month of May but also broke a 30-year record of snowfall in the hilly resort of Kalam.
Local media reported that Kalam received 17 millimetres of rainfall while snowfall was reported in the upper areas of the region, which has been a weather record in 30 years. Snowfall in May has occurred after 30 years while the wet spell brought back the winter chill to the area.
In the last 24 hours, maximum rainfall (27mm) was reported in Kashmir’s Rawlakot, 19mm in Hafizabad, 17mm in Kalam, 22mm in Malam Jabba, 15mm in Joharabad, and 12mm in Chakwal and Mangla.
On the other hand, maximum temperature was recorded in Mohenjo Daro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana and Padidan at 42 degrees Celsius. According to the Met office, a dry weather is likely to prevail in most of the plain areas in the country. However, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will receive more rain with gusty winds and thunderstorm, while hailstorm is also expected at some places.
