SEOL: South Korean singer and K-pop star Moonbin was found dead at his residence at the age of 25.
South Korean media said that Moonbin was found unresponsive by his manager in his room in Seoul on Wednesday night.
According to police, Moonbin appeared to have taken his own life but a post-mortem will determine the actual cause of death.
In a tribute, his label Fantiago said Moonbin unexpectedly left their world and became a star in the sky.
Moonbin had been in the field of acting and modelling before he joined the boy-only band Astro in 2016, which is a well-established K-pop group in South Korea. The late singer also performed with a sbsidiary called Moonbin & Sanha.
Fantagio asked everyone to avoid speculations and malicious reports about the death of Moonbin so that his family can pay respect in peace.
Moonbin joined Fantagio’s apprentice programme as a child before finally joining Astro. Astro had originally six performers but one member left the group in February 2023.
Moon Sua, his sister, is also a K-pop singer, who performs as part of the girl group called Billlie.
Earlier, singer and actress Goo Hara was found lifeless at her apartment in Seoul in 2019. Her close friend, K-pop star Sulli, committed suicide after a long struggle with alleged online bullying in the same year
In 2018, Minwoo of boy band 100% was found dead at home, with his label only stating at that time that he had suffered heart attack
Jonghyun, one of the members of South Korea’s largest boy band, SHINee, died in 2017.
South Korea has the highest degree of youth suicide of all developed countries. While overall suicide rate was falling in the country deaths of those mostly in their 20s were rising.
The government is attempting to substantially decrease the number of suicides that has plagued Korea’s hyper-competitive society.
