PESHAWAR: Former PTI leader and ex-KP CM Mahmood Khan confirmed that the name of Justice (Retd) Arshad Hussain Shah has been finalized as the caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The decision was reached after consultations between Mahmood Khan and opposition leader Akram Khan Durrani.
“We agreed on the name of Justice Arshad Hussain Shah,” stated Mahmood Khan, and the nomination has been forwarded to KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali for approval. Justice Arshad Hussain Shah, previously the law minister in the cabinet of former CM Muhammad Azam Khan, also served as the chief justice of Gilgit Baltistan.
The announcement follows the demise of Muhammad Azam Khan, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who passed away at the age of 89. Azam Khan, appointed in January, was shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar after falling ill.
Despite the decision, PTI leader Zahir Khan Toru expressed the party’s refusal to accept the new chief minister. The consultation process for the appointment of the next chief minister was initiated under Article 224(1A) of the Constitution, as communicated by KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali in a letter to Mahmood and Durrani on Saturday.
