KARACHI: Sindh ruling alliance and opposition parties decided to set former Sindh High Court chief justice Maqbool Baqar as the caretaker Chief Minister of the southeastern region.
Following extensive discussions between the departing Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, and the Leader of the Opposition in the dissolved provincial assembly, Rana Ansar, Maqbool Baqar’s name was confirmed. The announcement of his selection was made by Sindh just hours before the impending deadline.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori approved Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar appointment as caretaker Chief Minister under Article 224 (1A) of the Constitution.
The former Supreme Court judge is scheduled to take oath as caretaker Chief Minister on Tuesday.
In the meantime, former chief justice expressed his desire in upholding the law and the Constitution.
During an interview with a local media outlet, he emphasized the vital role of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in conducting elections and pledged his assistance to the commission in accordance with legal and constitutional frameworks.
Addressing the challenging current situation, Baqar expressed his determination to work towards resolving the issues of the people.
