ISLAMABAD: Despite the passage of 34 years, justice remains elusive for the victims of the Gaw Kadal massacre in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
A report released by the Kashmir Media Service highlighted that over 50 people were martyred in the Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21, 1990. The massacre occurred when Indian troops indiscriminately fired on peaceful demonstrators protesting the molestation of several women by the troops the previous night.
The report underscored the continuous brutalities committed by Indian troops since 1989 in IIOJK, revealing that over 96,287 Kashmiris have fallen victim to Indian bullets in the past 35 years.
The memories of Gaw Kadal and similar bloodbaths still haunt the minds of Kashmiris. The report emphasized that these massacres aim to instill fear among the people of Kashmir and alter the demography of the territory by turning its Muslim majority status into a minority.
Despite the large-scale killings and atrocities, the Kashmiri people remain resilient in their pursuit of the right to self-determination, and the report expressed their determination to continue the struggle for freedom from Indian oppression.
The report urged international human rights bodies to investigate the massacres committed by Indian troops in IIOJK, emphasizing the need for the world to hold the perpetrators accountable for Gaw Kadal and other massacres in the occupied territory.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of the Gaw Kadal massacre on the 34th anniversary, calling attention to the ongoing challenge posed by the killing fields of Kashmir to the so-called civilized world.
