ISLAMABAD: Justice Amir Farooq was sworn in as chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday.
President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to Justice Farooq at a ceremony held at the President’s House. Federal ministers, parliamentarians and other IHC judges were present at the ceremony.

Earlier, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan deliberated on various names for appointments in the Supreme Court and the IHC and recommended Justice Farooq’s name to the relevant parliamentary committee for approval.
Justice Farooq replaced Justice Athar Minallah as the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court. Justice Athar Minallah was elevated to the Supreme Court after the Judicial Commission of Pakistan recommended his name.
IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq was born on 26th April 1969. He got his senior Cambridge certificate in 1986 from St Anthony’s High School Lahore and his higher senior Cambridge certificate from Aitchison College in 1988. He secured his LLB degree from London University, and qualified as Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London, in 1993.
He was enrolled as an advocate of the Lahore High Court in 1994 and as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the year 2007.
From 2009 until his elevation, he was part of the adjunct faculty at Lahore University of Management Sciences.
Justice Farooq took oath as an additional judge of the Islamabad High Court on January 1, 2015 and as a permanent judge on December 23, 2015.
