LOS ANGELES: Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore has shared the secret behind her enduring marriage to filmmaker Bart Freundlich, saying their bond has thrived on one simple but powerful principle: enjoying each other’s company.

Speaking to People magazine, Moore said: “I think you have to enjoy being together. If you don’t want to be with someone, you won’t spend time with them, you won’t invest in them and their lives. Building a life together is a big thing.”

The actress, 63, stressed that maintaining a strong relationship takes time, teamwork and mutual investment, particularly when raising children. “Children are a big part of that too,” she explained.

“You’re both invested in these other human beings and you’re growing and developing them together. But it is just about being together and working as a team.”

Moore and Freundlich, 55, first met in 1996 on the set of The Myth of Fingerprints, which he directed and she starred in.

The couple welcomed their son Caleb in 1997 and daughter Liv in 2002, before marrying in an intimate ceremony in New York in 2003, with their children in attendance.

In August, Moore marked their 22nd wedding anniversary with a light-hearted Instagram post, sharing throwback wedding photographs and joking about her bridal theme.

“Happy anniversary baby. 22 years later and I still don’t know why the theme was purple,” she wrote.

The post drew warm wishes from fellow celebrities, including actress Naomi Watts, who commented: “Happy anniversary🙌🙌🙌 love you guys ❤️❤️.”

Jewellery designer Margery Hirschey also chimed in, teasing Moore: “Because purple looks beautiful on redheads??? Happy Anniversary!”

Moore, who has won an Academy Award, two Emmys and three Screen Actors Guild awards during her career, is also currently working with pharmaceutical company Lilly on its new Brain Health Matters campaign.

Reflecting on nearly three decades with Freundlich, Moore told People that the strength of their marriage lies in “shared time, mutual investment, and teamwork,” values she and her husband have embraced throughout their journey together.
