ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) party has called on the federal government to delay proposed constitutional amendments concerning the judiciary, citing a lack of access to the draft and a need for thorough consultation.
In a meeting held on Sunday, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and senior party leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari conveyed their concerns after discussions with government and opposition delegations. The meeting highlighted that JUI-F had yet to receive the draft of the proposed amendments for meaningful review and debate.
Maulana Haidari, speaking to the media, criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders for attempting to proceed without having provided the draft to all stakeholders.
“We have engaged with various political parties regarding the draft,” he said. “However, we are perplexed by how the PML-N could expect us to review the amendments without having the document.”

“We have advised the government to delay the amendments to facilitate a thorough review and proper consultations,” Haidari added. He emphasized that the party would not support the amendments if the process remained rushed and opaque.
The proposed amendments are intended to address various issues related to the judiciary, but the specifics have yet to be fully disclosed to all political actors.
Haidari warned that without adequate time for review, the party would be unable to offer its support. “There is no need to rush this process,” he said. “The government must exercise patience and ensure that the bill is presented to Parliament with full transparency and after sufficient deliberation.”
