DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The head of Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, on Monday demanded postponement of the February 8, 2024 General Elections, citing security concerns.

Addressing a press conference here in DI Khan, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that JUI-F is currently the target of terrorists, and they believe fair elections cannot be held under these circumstances. Therefore, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should consider our request.

The JUI-F leader further mentioned that candidates from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also cited weather and law and order issues as reasons for not contesting the elections. He expressed concerns that such conditions might lead to massive rigging.

Addressing the issue of political alliances, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that seat adjustments would be made wherever necessary.

Discussing the rejection of candidatures, he highlighted that not only PTI candidates but also members of other parties faced rejections of their nomination papers.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed that his party’s leadership had come under attack in Waziristan and Tank. He expressed concerns about security in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

In the backdrop of terror incidents, the JUI-F leader questioned how election campaigns could be conducted under such conditions. He mentioned having requested the election commissioner to consider delaying the polls, but claimed that the commissioner responded by saying he is praying.
