AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdullah on Monday warned of the serious consequences of a military offensive planned by Israel in Rafah and reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire to help protect civilians in Gaza and bring in humanitarian aid.
He also said the only way to end conflict was to find a political solution for Palestinians that would lead to the formation of a Palestinian state on territory Israel occupied in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, including east Jerusalem.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week said the Israeli cabinet would approve military operation for Rafah — including the evacuation of more than a million displaced Palestinian civilians who have been taking shelter there.
According to the Gaza health ministry almost 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war that started on October 7.
An army statement said, the Jordanian army also conducted the biggest air drop operation on Monday to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza where the mostly displaced population of 2.3 million is facing crisis of hunger.
Army spokesperson Mustafa Hiyari said, the operation deployed four C-130 aircrafts including one belonging to the French air force.
Aid was dropped to 11 different locations along the Gaza coast from its northern edge to the south for civilians to collect, Hiyari said.
The Jordanian air drops include medicines and humanitarian provisions that will be sent to hospitals run by Army of Jordan in war-hit Gaza.
