AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdullah has met separately with the foreign ministers of Australia and Greece in Amman to stress the importance of ending Israel’s war in Gaza, state media reported on Tuesday.

According to the Jordan News Agency, the king reaffirmed to Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong Jordan’s opposition to the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, and Israel’s strategy to separate the territories, adding that both must be part of the Palestinian state.

He said that military solution would not bring peace, and the only way to resolve the issue is to work towards two-state solution, which fulfilled Palestinians’ legitimate rights.

The king said an independent and sovereign Palestinian state must be established based on the 1967 border and with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Israeli aggression must be stopped

During a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, the king focused on the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the need to stop Israeli aggression and end the humanitarian crisis.

Both sides also addressed the sustainable delivery of sufficient aid to the Gaza Strip. King Abdullah warned of the catastrophic implications of the continuation of the war.

Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Humanitarian and Relief Aid Cell of the Jordanian Armed Forces sent a convoy of aid to Gaza.

The 20-truck convoy, sent in collaboration with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, was carrying humanitarian and food assistance to help Palestinians in the besieged enclave.

The ongoing relentless Israeli bombardments and ground operations since October 7 have killed over 24,285 Palestinians, with approximately 70 percent being women, young children, and adolescents, according to the Gaza Strip health ministry.
